Changing accountants
Changing accountants, like changing banks (or perhaps changing phones!), is one of those dreaded tasks in life.
You might not be 100% happy with your current provider, but it’s just too difficult to find someone else you trust, get all your paperwork together, and explain your business and your finances to a whole new person. Right?
Wrong! Changing accountants can be easy and we are here to help manage the transition smoothly.
Why consider changing
People change accountants for many different reasons. Sometimes, it’s simply because they’ve moved and they’re looking for someone more local. Other times, it’s because their incumbent accountant is no longer meeting their needs.
Perhaps your business has grown to a point where you need different advice about company structure, taxation planning and day-to-day bookkeeping? Or perhaps you wanted a more boutique experience with a firm where the owners know your name and will return your calls?
Give us a call or an email. We would love to talk to you about your tax and the services you’re after.
What happens to your records?
Are you wishing to change accountants but concerned what will happen with your records when you do change? Don’t be.
Established procedures in the accounting profession are for the new accountant to write the old accountant and request all relevant records. Your company binder, trust deeds, chattel mortgage, hire purchase documents and so on will all be passed over to us from the previous accountant.
You, as our new client, are able to provide us with a copy of your last year’s tax return, tax assessment and financial statements. If you do not have them, we recommend you contact your pervious accountant to obtain a copy.
What to expect from your first meeting
We will send you a checklist in advance and we will ask lots of questions in our first meeting.
They may include the following:
- Why do you want to change accountants?
- What sort of service are you looking for from your accountant?
- When did you last lodge a tax return?
- What do you do for a living?
- What investments do you have?
- How is your business going – are you making money?
- What are your contact details (email, address, phone number)?
